Categories :

We, humans, are notoriously bad at setting goals or making plans to achieve them. Goals can be defined as something you want to have (a nice car) or something you want to avoid (hunger).

What I learned and would like to pass on

Achieving goals is not as hard as many people believe. What it is, however, is an ongoing process of setting a goal, defining how to get there and then reviewing your progress and the goal itself. Is it still relevant and achievable?

The SCORE Method

Originally posted by Dean Dwyer on Udemy, his course Building Remarkable Willpower at Any Age no longer accepts new subscriptions. This a real shame. The course has a very clear and appealing method to achieve any goal you set for yourself. Let me recap the most important bit, and hopefully, Dean will update his course or reopens it for the public. Of course, I will remove this section immediately should he feel I shouldn’t give you the recap here.

The SCORE Method
  • Start by defining the problem you want solved, by determining the desired outcome and define what behaviour you should change.
  • Create a plan for success by identifying potential hotspots (situations where you might do the wrong behaviour), use checklists and create plays (how you want to respond when you are tempted)
  • Optimize behaviour through practice by visualizing success, performing realistic training and importantly, focusing on specific details
  • Remove barriers, realize there is no subscription for your goal, manufacture courage and try to avoid extreme solutions.
  • Evaluate outcomes, learn from past mistakes and expand your skillset

Conclusion

In conclusion, goal setting is crucial for achieving success and fulfilment in both personal and professional aspects of life. By following a structured approach and utilizing specific techniques, such as SMART goals and visualization, individuals can set themselves up for success and stay motivated to achieve their desired outcomes. Whether it’s a short-term or long-term goal, setting it properly can make all the difference in achieving it.
